Bio

Jonathan de la Querra, SASC, is an award-winning South African cinematographer based in Johannesburg. Renowned for crafting visually compelling stories across feature films and television drama, he has developed a distinctive visual style that combines technical precision, emotional depth and a strong narrative sensibility.
His approach is rooted in collaboration — working closely with directors and production designers to build a coherent visual world before the first frame is lit.
A graduate of the Academy of Film and Television Arts (AFDA) and an active board member of the South African Society of Cinematographers (SASC), Jonathan has built an extensive body of work spanning acclaimed feature films and television series. His credits include Die Toring, Soft Life, 3 Days to Go, Inconceivable, Saints & Sinners, Umlilo, Endgame, Projek Dina and Wounds and more.
Jonathan has collaborated with leading broadcasters and streaming platforms including Netflix, M-Net, kykNET and Showmax, bringing cinematic excellence to audiences both locally and internationally.
His work has earned industry recognition including a SAFTA Award for Best Achievement in Cinematography and multiple nominations for excellence in visual storytelling. Whether photographing intimate character-driven drama or large-scale productions, Jonathan approaches every project with a passion for creating images that resonate long after the final frame.
